Money can’t buy you happiness, but it apparently can buy you less sadness in life.

돈은 행복을 살수없지만, 슬픔을 덜어줄수는있다.

 

A new UBC study led by psychologist Kostadin Kushlev looked into the little-researched link between money and sadness, and concluded that money in the bank is a cushion for the sadness that can afflict those with less coin in their jeans.

심리학자 코스타딘 쿠스레브가 리드한 UBC 연구에 의하면 돈은 돈이 없는 사람들에게 닥칠수 있는 슬픔을 방어해줄수있다는 결과가 나왔다.

 

“Money may be a more effective tool for reducing sadness than enhancing happiness,” Kushlev concludes along with associates Elizabeth Dunn and Richard Lucas.

"돈은 행복을 증폭시키는것보다 슬픔을 줄여주는데 더 효율적인 도구이다"

 

“Although extensive previous research has explored the relationship between income and happiness, no large-scale research has ever examined the relationship between income and sadness.

"돈과 행복의 비례의 연구는 많았지만 돈과 슬픔의 비례의 연구는 없었다.

 

“We show that higher income is associated with experiencing less daily sadness, but has no bearing on daily happiness.”

연봉이 많으면 일상생활의 행복과는 별 상관이 없지만 일상생활의 슬픔과는 관련이 있다고 나타났다.

 

The thesis studied U.S. census data for 12,291 Americans and found that happiness and sadness are not necessarily two sides of the same coin, concluding:

12,291명의 미국인들을 대상으로한 이 연구는 행복과 슬픔은 같은 동전의 양면이 아닌것이라고 발견했다.

 

“Happiness and sadness are distinct emotional states, rather than diametric opposites.”

"행복과 슬픔은 대립하는 반대의 감정들이 아니라 서로 다른 별개의 감정 상태이다"
